Our Story
BEGINNINGS
The Wiebe Family began setting roots in Southern Manitoba in 1886. They settled north of Winkler in the district of Burwalde and began a farming tradition based on hard work and honesty. This tradition has been passed down through five generations. Dick Wiebe began growing fresh garden peas for the Morden Fine Foods cannery in 1960's. When Morden Fine Foods closed its doors Dick's sons Garry, Ken and Bruce purchased the Cannery equipment and established Covenant Vegetable Growers in 1984. The brothers grew fresh garden peas, string beans and sweet corn. Covenant grew and the brothers purchased a strawberry farm on the north edge of Winkler in 1990. There they opened a fresh fruit and vegetable Garden Market and purchased produce from other local growers. The family took a break from vegetable growing from 2002 until the next generation was able to pick up the torch and continue the tradition in 2013. Today Marcus, a third generation farmer, and the Covenant Growers team proudly continue the family tradition and deliver fresh produce to the garden markets of Southern Manitoba and operate a Roadside Stand stocked with fresh produce!
